I just moved into a house with a dish already installed. It isn't labelled so I don't know if it was DTV or DN. Regardless of which service, I was assuming that the dish would already be pointing in the right place. I got my MAXHD in the mail yesterday and started to set it up. I installed only the latest update from this site (PFTAHDMSW_081027HM DN A/R Fix) While I was able to see 45 in the signal the quality was 0.

1. Did I need to install the previous updates first?

2. Will I need to adjust the dish if #1 isn't the answer?

If there isn't a quick fix for something I'm overlooking, then I will post my Ant settings tonight and see if there is an issue there. Thanks.

Some additional info. The dish has 2 cables coming into the house. They are already hooked up to a switch. Is it a problem that both cables are currently hooked up to the switch?

Are you sure that the cable that you are using is connected to the dish?

No. I figured since the signal was at 45 that it was. Is that right that if it was the wrong one I would have 0 signal?

I think your problem may be the switch. Most Providers (DN & DTV use mulitswitches that are not compatible with an FTA receiver..(They won't work). You need to remove your switch and go directly into your receiver with the cable from the LNB.If you look at the LNB, you can tell what Provider it was for...Dish or DTV. Also, you need to make sure your settings are correct. For this, you will need to know what type of LNB you have...does it have 1 eyeball, or 2 eyes encased?...How many outputs are on it? When you look at "Signal" on your screen, your seeing the signal from the LNB to your receiver...This should be 70% +...When you look at "Quality", your looking at the signal from the Satellite to your LNB to your receiver.
Also, the file you loaded is fine..You don't have to retro load any files...The latest one for your receiver is all that is required.
Also, do not assume the Dish is pointed in the right direction. If the previous owners had DTV, then it is NOT pointed in the correct direction.

If it was a DTV dish, you'll need to set it to 110.0W or 119.0W. If you look in my sig at the bottom, you'll see a link for dishpointer...Use that to find your Lat and Long.

I would try these steps:

1) Remove the switch...(This will just be to see if you get better signal)
2) Find out what type of LNB you have and set it correctly in your settings
3) Post your LNB type, (or if you don't know it, let us know if it has 1 eye or 2 eyes and if it is DN or DTV)

Your settings should look like this:

EchoStar 7 - 119.0W
LNB Power------ON
LNB Type-------standard (depending on your LNB type)
LNB Freq----------- 11250
22kHz-------------Off
TP Freq----------12239
DiSEqC 1.0------ Port 1
Motor--------------Off
Legacy SW------None

EchoStar 8,10 - 110.0W
LNB Power------ON
LNB Type-------standard (depending on your LNB type)
LNB Freq-----------11250
22kHz-------------Off
TP Freq----------12224
DiSEqC 1.0------ Port 2
Motor--------------Off
Legacy SW------None

Let me know if this info helps

Thanks for the response. My receiver came with a switch. I will swap that out first. Now that I know what to look for I will supply as much more info as I can when I get home tonight.

When connecting or disconnecting any cables or switches, make sure the receiver is powered off at the rear switch, even unplugged from power sourse would be safest, as you could damage some sensative parts

and don't assume the dish is pointing in the right direction. Go to dishpointer.com and check your area. If it's just a single LNB it could be an old DTV (101W) or BEV (91W).... if it has the twin LNB (as FallenAngel mentions) then read the back of it (DP?) and let us know.

It was a DirectTV dish and it was pointing to the wrong sat. I took the switch out of the equation and re-aimed the dish and got everything working ... just in time to see it all go away. Once I update tonight I should be good to go.

Thanks for all of your help. This is a great forum.
