I'm sure its a matter of opinion for most but what FTA receiver supplier is the best?
Coolsat? Viewsat?
if I was to buy one today, who would you recommend? Thanks!!

Most people who answer this will tell you that their receiver is the best...But in my opinion, my receiver is the best...LOL...Just kidding...
I was the owner of 2 Coolsats and 2 Viewsats...I just bought another Viewsat...(Ultra)
For me, Viewsat, or Sonicview have great receivers with the support to back them up...Others will swear on IKS...What you need to do is wait for another ECM, then wastch what files come out first...Do this for the next few ECM's, and you start to see a pattern...The brands that put their files out quicker may be the ones you want to start looking at...Then it's just a matter of your own opinion...Are you looking for a PVR?, or just a regular STB?...Or High Def?...Or Dual Tuner?...These are the things you need to research first...Then when you find one you think you'll like, wait for the ECM's and see how good the support is for that model...
Hope this helps you out

I agree with Fallen Angel's comments, however, I would add ...
Stay away from Coolsat!

Remember, no receiver bashing...However, if you can do it subtly, (like I did)...By letting everyone know that I just replaced a Coolsat with another Viewsat Ultra, then it's ok...(lol)

Thanks that helps. But why stay away from Coolsat? ECMs are released very quickly for them it seems.

Sorry, I didn't mean to bash. I don't have a coolsat myself and never had one (I know that is a surprise as most folks did have at least one). I just read what others say and I watch the support. From what I have seen, the best for support is VS, SV, CNX and Captiveworks. I don't think you can go wrong with these models.

Hi dishguy ... it is all relative. I think support for the other boxes is much faster. It depends how badly one needs tv.
Just fyi ... ECMs come from the providers. The "fixes" are the file releases to work around the ECM that you want to see come out quickly.

You also have to remember that the manufacturers hire the coders to put out the bin files for the receivers.
And yes, you are correct in that VS CW, SV and some others get their files released very fast...And also, ECM's don't just hit Coolsats fast...When there is an ECM, it hits ALL the receivers...Some just get their files out quicker than others...

Yes, sorry, I knew that. I meant FIX.
Ok, good to know. I'm fairly new and I picked up a CS6100 about a month+ ago. I've had a FIX within 12hours for every ECM so far. I ask my question because I think I want to get an HD unit and was going to stick with the coolsat, depending on your opinions of course.

So, in your opinion if I want HD, what unit would you suggest? Thanks!

The one that has been out the longest and appears to have the best track record is the Sonicview 8000HD. The CW3000HD is good but it is not as easy to setup. It takes time and patience. The CW4000HD looks sweet, but that is just the pictures. Not sure who has played with it yet. The VS9000HD seems to be OK. I've read mixed reviews about that one. I don't know much about the coolsat HD models, and I plan to keep it that way (I digress). I also don't know much about the pansat HD models. Try reading up on the SV8000HD and see if it is something you would like based on user feedback and reviews.
You should also consider what you want to watch. There are discussions about additional adapters or add-ons that would be required if you want to watch the US provider HD channels.

The Sonicview does look good. It appears that there is a V2? I am only interested in BEV at the moment. I presume you are referring to the 8psk? Is that only required for DN?

All receivers are the best when they are up ...it all depends on your cash flow some people might have money to buy a cnx, or nfusion, and some ppl will buy viewsat there great and some ppl might go with cw for under $100 dlls.

Yes V2 is the one with the internal fan. I do not think vendors have much of the V1 in stock, so that is good.
For what you are looking for, I think any HD receiver with decent support should suffice (SV being one of them). The 8psk is the add-on that others have talked about. Yes, it is required for the other provider.
I heard VS has a new lower end HD box. I don't know much about it, but perhaps you should read up on that too. I assume it has good support like its other boxes.

Please post back on the VSMAXHD. I've been looking at that too. Let us know how it looks.

LOL I would say a subbed reciever!:) Actually i would go with a Nfusion Nova in todays game! With a crack of N3 I would definately go with a ViewSat ultra as they are so user friendly and overall a great box unless you want HD then go with the higher end VS? just my thoughts I am a VS lover though so I am biased but Nfusion is good too if you dont mind IKS!

Any word on the VS MAXHD? I like the price, but being such a new device is it better to wait an see how it performs?
