I saw this at another site and figured it would help some out here who were having problems loading their receivers via laptop with no serial port....I have personally used this guide with excellent results...enjoy

Setup your computer port with a usb adapter

How to change your Comm port setting's,
1) Load driver to you’re PC
2) Right click on My Computer, highlight Manage left click on Device Manager left click on Ports (Comm & LPT) Click on Serial port, Port Setting, then click on (Advanced)A box will Poop-up, bottom left corner Comport Number (click) and open, Scroll open and set to (Comm 1), click OK, close

Note: if Comm 1 port say" [In Use] Select Comm 2, or Comm 3, then close out all open boxes, when you go back to youre (computer Management and look under (Ports (COM and LPT) you should see your cable icon and beside that it should say; ( Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm port (COM 0) ofcourse the number of the port will be whatever you setup on, (0) is only an example.

Please Note:
Null Cable (Has to be DB9F-F Cable or Equivalent for all Viewsat and alot of other FTA Receivers), for other Receiver's the Straight cable can be used with the USB converter cbale also. Please make sure you are using the correct model cable that came with the unit you have bought.

Next, when if you are using Loader 2 make sure you are connected to the same comm port that you have setup on your PC, to do this Open loader 2 onto youre Desktop, click (tools), then select (configuration) a small box will open up and you will be able to select your COM PORT from a list. Again make sure it is setup to the same port your PC is set too., also select (Upload Type) to Manual, and not to Automatic.

Also youre settings should look like this:
Example:
Comm port: [COM 0]< this needs to match your setting on your comm port>
Speed: 115200 baud < is the MAX setting>
Data Bit: [8]
Parity: [no]
Stp Bit: [1]
Flow Control: [No]

Finally if youre using any other type of Loader, the connection types should still be setup the sameway, and also make sure on Loader 2, that the Zmodem32.dll file is located in the same folder as the loader, or ofcourse it will not work.

I hope this explains everything you need to know.
