View Full Version : Harsh to FTA coders

The announcement on the from opening page "BEV - DOWN. Switch to DN. BEV not coming back for months if at all." seems a little harsh to the coders who I am sure are working the issues with Nag3 and the advertisers of this site hoping to sell FTA boxes. Bev has changed to Nag3 and as sure as the sun comes up in the east, Dicknet is already preparing to switch cards as we know and that means Nag3 is coming soon. I think coders have a good stream to work on and might have Nag3 fixed before DN can even switch. Wouldn't that frost their cake to spend all that money and still have "US" to deal with. Just my 2 cents..

The announcement may seem harsh, but it is simply the truth. The G3 / N3 encryption has NOT been hacked. BEV IKS is showing promise (card sharing a sub) and we all hope for a compromise of the new cards, but as it stands now, there simply is no reason to think that a hack is imminent. Anybody who tells you otherwise is probably trying to sell you something.

Well, cracking it sooner than DN fully implements it is very possible, but I personally doubt that anything would be publically released before DN changed. I do not believe that we won't have downtime like we did when they switched to N2 either, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a couple of months before any hack is released. And, it's possible that Nagra may go the way of Direct, and never have a public hack released. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, anything is possible.
That's my $0.02,

First off there was a public hack released for Direct TV its called FTA it just replaced the old method of loop holes and cards...Considering you had to go to a dealer to replace your card or reprogram it made much more sense to just create files and have them uploaded to your box...FTA replaced the old system with much less risk to indiviuals especially within the United States...given that most of our codes come from countries that dont care about copyrights such as Korea or China....I subscribe to Bell and when they issued my card i knew what they were doing however i can plug my card from my bell box into my FTA reciever and it works just great...GO FIGURE HUH... yes i only get the channels that i pay for but it shows that the recievers can read Nagra3 and that the potential for a new BIN is there.....I would think it is very unlikely we see a new realease before Dish changes to Nag3 however it is not impossible i would think expected downtime would range from 2 months to 8 months and even that is not that long of time....Yes it sucks that we wont get our sports packages, it sucks we wont get our movies, it sucks we wont get our porn lol but what do you expect from these companies it is in there best interest to protect their product in order to make us buy it....IT fair enough......There is a fix for nag3 on the nfusion boxes as you can connect to a server that is programmed with a BEV card and you can access all the channels....so if you really need TV that badly feel free to buy an nFusion and give it a try...
Otherwise go rent a movie or read a book, its only TV

I'd be interested to see the FTA receiver that gets Direct TV channels, there isn't one. Plugging your card into a FTA receiver doesn't prove anything, when using a card the card does the decryption. Card sharing does not constitute a hack plus being connected to a public server allows your connection to be traced back to you if the server is compromised. If you really need TV that badly, get a subscription, no risk at all in that, just a monthly bill to pay.

Well, you guys knew I was going to have to put my 2 cents in also...
First off, FTA is not a public hack for DTV...If it were, we'd all be watching that now. And The coders have priorities they work on...There is no doubt they are working on Nag 3 and BEV , and most likely were as soon as the first channel went to Nag 3...But believe me, they won't release anything until DN is dark...For a few reasons...Mainly, they wouldn't want to let DN know how they are going to combat N3..This would put the ball in DN's court ...so to speak...Dn could see what the coders were doing, and defend against it before implementing N3...That wouldn't be good..Also, The coders priorites are DN, then BEV, then GC...in that order,.,NOT saying that if BEV were down, and DN were up, they wouldn't be trying to fix it.
Just that this is a special case..They may release a fix for BEV after DN goes dark..There wouldn't be much DN can do at that point...It would take more research and another card swap (maybe)...But don't think for a minute that they are gonna give up on this...Not happening...This is why they get paid what they do...This is their job...This is what they live for...The notoriety of being the one who cracked N3...
But think about this also...It's been over 5 years for DTV...there may be a crack out there for it...by some private person who is watching it as we speak, and not telling a soul...But for the public, there is nothing...and you can't sit there and say that there is a public hack for DTV, and it's called FTA...no way...FTA is nothing more than FTA.,.thats it...If we didn't have the bin files to use, all we would be getting would be free to air sats...These bin files are made for the receivers to take the same commands that DN gives to their cards through the stream...When there is a change, (mapcall...etc) the firmware in the DN receivers can change to accomodate it...These FTA receivers can't...Hence, we need a new bin file (firmware update) to adapt to the change. But at this point...it's a waiting game...and there are some people who know whats going on, and they really aren't talking...And I can't blame them...But in the first few months of next year, (my prediction is mid march) we'll see what happens...
Just my 2 (maybe 4) cents..

FTA is the public crack for DTV to say it isnt is wrong. Yes you have to go out and by new hardware and yes you have to download BIN files....but the system took the path of least resistence.... how costly was DTV how illegal and easy was it to catch, FTA stands for free to air but NO ONE with an FTA box watches FTA channels or atleast they didnt till N3 came along. Lets be serious for a minute if FTA never came along would there be a hack for DTV???? the answer is yes with out a doubt yes....FTA gave the coders a new outlet and easier outlet a path of little resistance and full of loop holes.....so FTA was the public hack to DTV it just came in a different from.....FTA is a loop hole these recievers were never meant for actuall free to air channels and if you think so you are just kidding yourself. These boxes entire purpose was to watch BEV or DISH and thats it....cause BEV or DISH there is not FTA cause no one is spending 200 bucks to watch some have a**ed shi**y tv station.....that is my two cents
