SES Astra, the European satellite operator for SES, said its Astra 1M satellite is set to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Oct. 31.

The mission will take place aboard a Proton Breeze M launch vehicle provided by International Launch Services. It is the seventh Astra satellite to be launched on a Proton rocket.

The spacecraft, built by EADS Astrium, will be positioned at 19.2 degrees East. The satellite will provide pan-European coverage, primarily delivering direct-to-home services, including HDTV.

The launch of Astra 1M will allow SES Astra to redeploy other satellites to its increasingly important orbital position of 23.5 degrees East, the company said.
