DIRECTV has reached a milestone in its efforts to bring local high-def signals to customers.
On Wednesday, the DBS company said it is now offering local HD programming to customers in 100 markets following the launch of high-def local channels in the Columbia-Jefferson City, Mo., and Evansville, Ind., areas. With the two launches, DIRECTV said it now offers local HD broadcast channels to more than 83 percent of U.S. TV households.
DIRECTV said that by the end of the year it plans to provide local HD channels in more than 121 cities, representing about 88 percent of U.S. TV households.
