Questions about geting started...

Well, like I said... I am a newbie and I don't know where to start with my questions. My friend got me interested in this hobby and I am hooked. He gave me his old Coolsat 4000. i have not hooked anything up yet because I not sure what to do.

I have a sub to DN and I also have a DTV dish on the house. He told me to just hook it to the DN dish and I should be fine. Just thought I would ask before I do anything.

well it's a fun hobby.... the trickk is to get your feet wet and read read read and test and it will all make sense. The best place to start would be here in the Coolsat section... look for your model (4K) and see what it's all about. There's a lot to learn.. from dish setups, LNBs, switches, SY+TBs (your 4K) and cabling, etc. Then finally setting up your antenna menus and programming your 4k and scanning in the channels (satellites).
