CW-100R Set up & User Guide
The documentation sucks, the product seems great. I have compiled these tips, tricks & procedures that I had to use to make it work.

Please feel free to pitch in, I may have overlooked some features/functions or ignore something.

What you need to know:

The CW-100R is a DVB Recorder.

It will playback digital still pictures, audio (MP3 & WMA) and movies(MPEG 1/2/4 and DivX Avi files).

It will record digital audio (MP3) and movies (MP3/4, AVI).

The maximum size for each file is 4GB (while using the current FAT32 disk system).

Tip: I suggest recording Videos in Avi - SP or LP quality (720x480 @ 29.97 frames per second will store 1 hour recording in aprox. 1~1.5 Gb).

Inputs:
DC 5V 2.5A
I/R Remote Sensor
External storage via SD/MMC slot or USB conection.
RCA A/V (Composite Video/L/R) to combined mini-plug.
RS-232 DB-9 (Male) Port (Note that serial cables are NOT bundled with the product).

Outputs:
S-Video
RCA A/V (Composite Video/L/R)
Component Video (Y, Pb, Pr)

Tip: Unlike other Captive Works products the Remote Control is really SLOW. To get the power ON you may need to keep pressing power for 2-3 seconds. Get used to the slow response

Preparing your external storage:

You can basically use a SD or MMC card and a USB pen drive, although there should not be enough memory for (longer) movie recordings it could be OK for still pictures or music.

SD or MMC card: Simply insert your card in the available slot. If you have never used the card select Menu -> Format -> and move the cursor to the SD card, press OK and follow the instructions.

USB device: A similar procedure should be followed for a USB device. Keep in mind that if you are going to prepare your own external HDD:

- Set your jumper switch to Single or Master (typically means removing the jumpers).

- You may need to partition the disk (Windows 98 or earlier would require FDISK or similar utility).

- You can format the disk on your computer using FAT32 system or alternatively on the CW-100R: Menu -> Format -> USB Device -> OK ->

Tip: Do not plug your external HDD to the CW-100R untill this last stage, otherwise you may get the annoying message "USB External Device Not Found" or similar.

You will need to confirm by selecting "Yes" and pressing OK.

Tip: That is also a convenient method to quickly erase everything on the storage device, either flash card or USB device (instead of deleting each file separately).

Updating your CW-100R:

Store the latest "TVBOXROM.BIN" file on USB pen drive, SD CARD, or External HDD in the root directory.

Plug your external device into the CW-100R and press Menu -> Play File

Select file "TVBOXROM.BIN" and press OK

DO NOT TURN OFF THE RECORDER UNTIL THE DOWNLOAD IS COMPLETE. The CW-100R should reboot by itself after the upgrade.

Configuring your CW-100R:

I find this guide very good:
Schedule recording through EPG menu from CW-600S / CW-600S Premium / SonicView:

Make sure your receiver is using the latest bin file with CW-100R support and has the correct date/time (for proper EPG functioning).

Make sure your CW-100R has been updated with the latest TVBOXROM.BIN

Connect the CW-100R DVB recorder to your receiver through the RS-232 ports using Straight serial cable.

On your Receiver remote:
- Press EPG
- Select any show that you want to record
- Press the Green button
- A window will pop up with the channel name, start date/time and end date/time. Edit as appropriate and confirm by pressing OK.

At the proper time, the CW-100R will start record automaticly and when the time finishes it will stop recording.

Tip: When recording consecutive events give your receiver 1 min gap in between recordings, otherwise it may not work properly.
