KBOX K1 Heros Setup Guide
1. Connect the receiver to your TV with your choice of cables. Recommend that you use at least a good quality S-Video or component cables.
2. Connect the RG6 coax cable from the LNB/s to the LNB in port. Make sure that there is no power to the receiver!!
3. Connect the dongle serial cable to the serial port on the rear of the KBox K1 Heros receiver. Connect the other end of the dongle serial cable to the dongle (serial to Ethernet converter). Connect the power cable for the dongle to the dongle and plug into an electrical outlet. Connect an Ethernet network cable to the network port on the dongle. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your home router/firewall.
4. Connect the power cord from the receiver to an electrical outlet (suggest using a decent power bar).
5. The KBox K1 Heros supports both a card less fix (non IKS) and IKS through the dongle type files…There are differences in the files. Download the latest card less or IKS file to your computer. Save the file where you’ll be able to find it easily! Unzip/Extract the file from the zipped file. Copy that file to a USB thumb drive (must be at the root of the drive).
6. Power on the KBox K1 Heros receiver from the rear switch. Power the receiver from the remote and insert the USB thumb drive into the USB port behind the door on the right front of the receiver.
i. The files are differentiated by their name. Example; “K1HEROS v.1.16.52 20080506.zip” denotes a cardless file and “K1HEROS_D v.1.16.51 20080430.zip” (notice the “D” in the file name) denotes an IKS file.
7. A new window should open (“Software Download”). Select the “K1HEROS vx.x.x.xx.ird” file and press the red button on the remote to download the file to the receiver.
i. First load the factory file.
ii. Load either the cardless file or the dongle file.
iii. ***Important*** Do not interrupt the download process, do not power off the receiver!!! The receiver will restart on its own when the download has completed successfully.
8. After the receiver restarts from the download, follow the prompts to setup language, time offset and daylight saving settings. You’ll now be prompted for an auto scan for satellites, if you accept the receiver will proceed to scan through each possible setting and attempt to determine what satellites you are pointed at. The receiver does a pretty good job of detecting LNB type, switch settings and the satellites you are pointed at!
i. When the auto scan has completed the receiver will go straight to an auto channel scan.If a satellite fails to get channels, check the dish settings for each satellite. Go to Menu, Installation, Dish Settings. Pay close attention to the LNB frequency and insure is set appropriately for the LNB type. DSS, DP and Legacy are set to 11250, linear are set depending on the LNB type and the new circular for 118.7 is 10750.
IKS Settings
1. If you have loaded the IKS file, you’ll need to modify a few settings for the dongle to connect and be active.
i. Press the menu button on the remote, select Configuration, UI Setting. In the UI Settings you need to set the baud rate to 19200. Save and exit.
ii. From the Main Menu, select Installation, then Option (if prompted for a password enter “0000”). Turn Autoroll Off for all providers. Exit and save if prompted.
iii. Exit out to a TV channel. The dongle light on the top will turn green when it obtains a connection to the IKS server. If the light is orange, there is a communication problem on your network (most commonly the routers DHCP settings are not accurate).
iv. TV will kick in once dongle is active.
Cardless Settings
1. Make sure Autoroll is turned on!
I think that just about covers everything to setup this receiver, there may be future revisions!
Enjoy your new receiver!!!
