Interesting. They are barred from trafficking in anything that:

is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing
Plaintiffs’ Security System, including the encryption and access control
protection contained in the software on DISH Network Access Cards, or
any other technological measure adopted by Plaintiffs that effectively
controls access to copyrighted television programming on the DISH
Network platform; That is kind of a loose definition. So they could still sell legal FTA boxes? Me thinks the future of any stand alone fixes (if there ever are any) could easily be offloaded to the community with a source code release - or the integrated ability to use opensource emulators. How does one determine whether a device is "is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing
Plaintiffs’ Security System"? Wasn't the device primarily designed to receive unencrypted FTA channels?

Of course all these questions probably don't matter as far as Coolsat goes with the over 100 million slapped on them, but it does set precedent for the other pending cases.

In these cases, the investigative process can be lengthy prior to actual charges being laid (up to 1 year)... then legal teams are assembled, and the process of discovery and preparation (up tp 1 year)... followed by a lenghty trial... and eventually the rendering of a decision. All in all, these decisions are often for events that took place years before.... hope that helps.

U.S. District Court Rules Against Freetech

Dish Network, co-owned equipment supplier EchoStar Technologies, and conditional access supplier Nagrastar have scored a big victory in their battle against signal piracy, according to the companies.

Dish said Tuesday that a California U.S. District Court had entered a $97 million judgment against Freetech Inc., which had been marketing a device under the Coolsat brand to pirate Dish signals, said the satellite company. There was also a $9 million judgment against the company's officers and owners.

In addition, Freetech agreed to forfeit its liquid assets to Dish and shut down its worldwide business.

A call to Freetech had not been returned at press time.

Either way, sell your coolsat stock now before it is too late. If it isn't already?
